ULA layoffs: Company trying to compete with SpaceX, Blue Origin

HARLINGEN — United Launch Alliance yesterday announced layoffs of 110 employees nationwide, including some believed to be employed at its operation here.

Employees who were in Harlingen Colorado, California, Alabama and Florida were notified yesterday morning.

A ULA spokesperson, Jessica Rye, said 87 of those workers were in Colorado.

She did not specify the number of job losses in Harlingen, but the company said 240 employees already had agreed to voluntary layoffs and the layoffs announced yesterday would take the total to 350 workers.
