Fans of the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley will soon be able to express team spirit by enjoying a cold Los Vaqueros beer.

UTRGV Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Wednesday that it has partnered with 5×5 Brewing Co. to create a blood orange kölsch style ale that will soon be available in restaurants, stores and at UTRGV athletic events where alcohol is served, according to a news release.

The brew is expected to be available at UTRGV baseball’s final home series that’s scheduled for May 12 through the 14 against Grand Canyon.

5×5 Brewing Co. will host a tailgate party to introduce the new beer to fans before the May 12 game at 4 p.m. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

“This is an incredible opportunity to spread the Vaqueros brand throughout the Valley in a unique way,” UTRGV Vice PResident and Director of Athletics Chasse Conque said in a news release. “We are grateful for our partnership with 5×5 Brewing to develop and market Los Vaqueros.”

The news release said Los Vaqueros will be available in branded cans at most Valley H-E-Bs, Specs, Total Wine & Mores’ and El Tigre locations.

A list of restaurants that will serve Los Vaqueros using a branded tap is still being compiled. Restaurants wanting to serve Los Vaqueros can do so by ordering through L&F Distributors.

“We are proud to be a small part of UTRGV Athletics putting the Valley on the map,” George Rice, 5×5 co. director of operations and owner, said. “We believe that beer should be exciting, and right now, there is a lot to be excited about with UTRGV Athletics.”
