A man was arrested Saturday at the United States Border Patrol checkpoint near Falfurrias after agents discovered 75 bricks of cocaine concealed in his vehicle, according to a criminal complaint.

Glafiro Valle Jr., born in 1964, is charged with possession with intent to distribute nearly 182 pounds of cocaine after agents found several bricks concealed inside an aftermarket compartment.

On Jan. 14, Valle was detained by Border Patrol after an agent observed him to be nervous and avoiding eye contact during questioning, the complaint said.

Due to his behavior, the agent asked Valle for consent to have his vehicle, a white Dodge Ram 2500, scanned by an X-ray machine, which he agreed to, according to the complaint.

When the agent observed several anomalies inside the diesel gas tank in the bed of the truck, Valle asked to speak to a supervisor who he “freely and voluntarily” told that the agents were going to find cocaine in the tank.

A search of the gas tank revealed 75 bricks of cocaine, which together weighed nearly 182 pounds. A field test kit used on one of the bricks by an agent yielded positive for cocaine, according to the complaint.

That same day, Valle admitted to investigators that he was aware he was transporting cocaine, his destination was Houston and that he was the person who concealed the cocaine inside the diesel tank.

Valle is set to appear before Magistrate Judge Nadia Medrano Friday for a detention hearing.
