The Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley will be hosting its annual farm dinner fundraiser next month.

The fundraiser is scheduled for Feb. 24 at the food bank’s on-site community garden and farm, which is located right behind the Food Bank RGV at 724 N. Cage Blvd. in Pharr.

“The farm dinner helps support our community garden and farm,” Rosie Martinez, Food Bank RGV Manager of Marketing and Communications, said. “It helps support the farm by allowing us to expand our community garden. It will also help other organizations jump start their own gardens by allowing us to share seeds or materials and equipment that we have.”

Renowned Chef Larry Delgado will be preparing a locally sourced five-course meal. Delgado heads the Delgado Collective, the popular McAllen restaurants that include House. Wine. & Bistro., SALT- New American Table and SALOMÉ on Main.

“We will have live entertainment,” Martinez said. “The event begins at 6 p.m. with a cocktail hour outside where guests can take tours of the garden and ask our staff questions. They can explore the back garden because a lot of people don’t know that we have the garden or the farm back there.”

Guests will then be led inside the historic Valley Fruit Co. building where they will be served their five-course meal.

“Our community garden and nutrition education programs are vital to the Food Bank’s mission, and the funds raised at this event will help us to continue to grow and expand these programs,” Libby A. Saenz, chief executive director of the Food Bank RGV, said in a news release. “We are beyond grateful for the support we continue to receive from The Delgados and from our community, and we look forward to another successful and enjoyable Farm Dinner.”

Tickets for the event can be purchased at the Food Bank RGV for $150 per ticket, per person. There are only 125 seats available for the dinner fundraiser.

“The event usually sells out every year, so they can’t purchase tickets at the door,” Martinez said.

The Food Bank RGV is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. For more information, or to learn about sponsorship opportunities, visit foodbankrgv.com.
