As construction continues on the Driscoll Children’s Hospital Rio Grande Valley, Driscoll is already searching for employees to staff the new healthcare facility.
Driscoll is looking for neonatal registered nurses for the neonatal intensive care unit by holding a hiring event this week, according to a news release issued by Driscoll.
The hiring event is planned Wednesday, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen which is located at 1610 W. Expressway 83 in Pharr. It will feature information, onsite interviews, and job offers, the hospital said.
“We are looking for nurses who are passionate about caring for our most fragile patients, who want to be part of a great team that will support each other and be part of something amazing,” Laura Meister, chief nursing officer for Driscoll Children’s Hospital Rio Grande Valley, said in the news release.
The Driscoll Children’s Hospital, which will be located on the DHR Health campus in Edinburg, will be the first standalone children’s hospital in the Rio Grande Valley.
The eight-level facility will include a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), emergency services, and acute inpatient and outpatient surgery.
It will also offer rehabilitation, imaging, laboratory and specialty programs, according to the news release.
Driscoll and DHR Health invested more than $100 million into the new facility — $55 million from DHR and $50 million from Driscoll.
For the construction of the building, DHR Health entered into a contract with the city of Edinburg. As part of that agreement, the city will make an initial grant payment of $2 million to DHR when the hospital is completed and is operational.
Then, starting a year after the hospital is operational, the city will pay another $1 million every year for eight years, according to the contract.
The hope is that, for the city’s investment, the hospital will not only expand healthcare access but will also attract businesses, new development, and other investment to the city.
The construction and operation of the hospital is also expected to create at least 300 new, full-time jobs, or “full-time equivalent” jobs, according to the contract.
Those interested can RSVP for the event by calling (956) 346-3936, though walk-ins are also welcome.
Participants are asked to bring a resume, if they have one available. Registered nurses who are not able to attend can apply online at driscollchildrens.org/employment.
