Police on Thursday continued to investigate a homicide that occurred overnight in Brownsville.

The homicide took place at the 5400 block of Boca Chica Boulevard on the city’s east side.

Brownsville police spokesman and investigator Martin Sandoval said the officers were sent to the location at around 11:48 p.m. Wednesday in reference to a disturbance. The location is a small apartment complex.

When officers arrived at the scene, they noticed that a white vehicle had collided with two other vehicles there, he said.

The officers noticed the driver’s side door to the white vehicle was open. When they walked up to the vehicle to try and talk to the driver, they saw that the “male subject in the driver’s seat was slumped over and had a gunshot wound,” Sandoval said.

Investigators believe the man was driving the vehicle when he was shot. They say they found a number of shell casings at the scene, but do not know how many times the victim was shot. Authorities have identified him and are now working to notify his relatives.

Sandoval said the investigation is ongoing and added that authorities have no suspect information at this time and that no arrest has been made.

Police are asking the public to call the department if they have any information on the shooting or Crime Stoppers at (956) 546-TIPS.
