Cameron County reports 12 COVID-19 deaths

Twelve more Cameron County residents have died from COVID-19 related causes, the county health department reported Thursday.

Five deaths were reported in Brownsville, three in Harlingen, two in La Feria and one each in Port Isabel and San Benito, Cameron County Public Health said in a statement Thursday night.

They included one person in his 40s, two people in their 50s, two people in their 60s, three people in their 70s, two people in their 80s and two people in their 90s, the health department said.

This raises the total number of coronavirus-related deaths in Cameron County to 1,308, the health department said.

Also Thursday, the health department said it has received confirmation on an additional 101 COVID-19 cases here, raising the total number of cases to 34,691.

New cases were reported in Brownsville, Combes, Harlingen, La Feria, Laguna Heights, Los Fresnos, Olmito, Palm Valley, Port Isabel, Primera, Rio Hondo and San Benito, the health department said.

The new cases include nine children ages 9 and younger, 22 people ages 10 to 19, 10 people in their 20s, 11 people in their 30s, 12 people in their 40s, 16 people in their 50s, 12 people in their 60s, six people in their 70s, two people in their 80s and one person in his 90s, the health department said.

There have also been an additional 167 individuals who have recovered, raising the total number of recovered individuals to 28,279.

As part of the COVID-19 action response plan, Cameron County Public Health is conducting epidemiological investigations, contact tracing as needed and continues to monitor the situation, the health department said in the statement.
