Decking for prizes

If you think you have the best holiday decorations you might want to sign up for the City of Brownsville’s first ever Lights 2020 Holiday Contest.

The city is asking residents to show off their best Christmas decorations photos or videos for the chance to win some “major awards.”

The city will take submissions until 11 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11. The winners will be announced on social media on Dec. 18.

The contest is free and open to all Brownsville residents.

You can participate in the contest by doing the following:

>>Take a photo or short video clip of your decorations and upload them on the City’s Facebook Page.

>>The city prefers photos because videos will take longer for the judges to review and publish.

>>Make sure to complete the form and that contact information is correct.

The photos/videos will be shared on the City of Brownsville Parks and Recreation social media for public voting.

There are two awards that include the following:

>>People’s Choice Award: This is the photo that received the most social media engagement — or the post with the most likes — will win the People’s Choice Award, a plaque and a gift.

>>BTXParks Choice Award: Judging by the City’s Parks and Recreation Department Staff. The winner will also receive a plague and gift.

For more information, contact the city’s Parks and Recreation Department at (956) 455-7729.

The first 50 people to register will receive a free goodie bag from the city’s Parks and Recreation Department.
