Point Isabel ISD to start meal distribution program

PORT ISABEL — As this school district inches closer to kicking off the new school year with remote instruction, preparations are underway for its student meal distribution.

Point Isabel ISD will start its “Grab and Go, Eat at Home Program” on Monday, Aug. 24.

The school district’s Child Nutrition Food Services Department and Department of Transportation are teaming up to provide meals to students.

Monday through Friday, parents and students are able to visit bus stops closest to their homes to pick up breakfast and lunch meals. Exact times and bus routes will be posted to the school district’s website and social media pages.

Parents and students may also visit any school on weekdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to pick up meals.

The meals are only free for students enrolled in Garriga Elementary, Derry Elementary, Port Isabel Jr. High or Port Isabel High School.

Parents or guardians are able to pick up meals for students, however, student ID numbers or meal cards are required to redeem the meals. Students’ meal cards will be included in the bundle pack they pick up from their school.
