Walmart to temporarily close store on FM 802

Walmart says it will temporarily close its store on FM 802 so it can be sanitized and employees can restock shelves.

In a news release, Walmart says the store will be closed sometime today and Wednesday with plans to reopen it at 7 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20.

“Health officials are working to curb the impact of this pandemic and we want to be a part of the solution. In support of this effort, we have chosen to take the proactive step to temporarily close our store at 2205 E. Ruben Torres Sr. Blvd in Brownsville to the public…”

The company says when the store reopens they will continue to conduct health screenings and temperature checks for employees, plus provide them with face masks and gloves.

“We will continue working closely with health officials and adjusting how we serve the community while also keeping the health and safety of our customers and associates in mind.”

Walmart says it has added sneeze guards at registers, requires customers to wear face masks and limits the number of people in the store.

Last week, Walmart announced it is closing its doors later at most stores. The retail chain announced that closing time will be moved from 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. beginning Monday. Half the stores in the Valley will continue to close at 8:30 p.m.
