Sinkhole, line collapse forces BPUB to close part of Boca Chica Blvd.

The Brownsville Public Utilities Board says it will take several days for crews to fix a wastewater line that collapsed under Boca Chica Boulevard on Monday night.

BPUB says all lanes of Boca Chica Boulevard between Resaca Drive and Coria Street will remain closed for at least five days.

Traffic in both directions will be detoured, but drivers are asked to make alternate plans to avoid traffic delays.

BPUB says it received reports of a sinkhole starting to form on Boca Chica Boulevard and that is when crews discovered the wastewater line collapsed. Since the line could be as much as 10 feet deep under the paved street, BPUB says it will take several days to make the repairs.

The problem is not expected to impact customers.
