Court upholds man’s 65 year prison sentence

The 13th Court of Appeals has upheld the conviction of a man accused of sexually abusing five children over the course of five years, the Cameron County District Attorney’s Office is reporting.

Jose Garcia Ramirez, 27, was sentenced to 65 years in prison in 2018 for one count of continuous sexual abuse of a young child, two counts of indecency with a child by contact and two counts of indecency with a child by exposure.

Authorities said Garcia Ramirez sexually abused five children between the ages of 8-12 years over the course of five years. The abuses began in 2013.

Because of the type of crime he committed, Garcia Ramirez will not be eligible for parole until he serves at least 50 years of his day for day.

“I hope this sends the message that Cameron County will not tolerate the acts of child sex predators. With the help of law enforcement, and our community partners like the child advocacy center, our Child Abuse Unit will continue to seek the appropriated sentences for child sexual predators and our Appellate team will make sure the punishments secured are carried out to see that justice is done,” said Cameron County District Attorney Luis V. Saenz.”

Garcia Ramirez remains in custody at the Estelle Unit in Huntsville, Texas.
