Chrome in the Sand festival returns to SPI

Looking to show off your custom ride or classic car? 

You’ll have the opportunity to at a festival returning to South Padre Island for a second year this weekend. 

Chrome in the Sand Festival will be held this weekend at SPI’s convention center, with a ride-along kicking off at 11 a.m. Saturday with special guest Orange County Choppers founder Paul Teutul Sr. from the series American Chopper. 

The meet up for the ride-along will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Port Isabel Walmart parking lot, located at 1402 State Hwy 100. The first 500 attendees will receive a special edition T-shirt and commemorative patch, Visit South Padre Island said on Facebook. 

On Friday, there will be a poker tournament from 4 to 9 p.m. and a DJ set at 6 p.m. 

The main event will have outdoor and indoor activities on Saturday, which will feature live entertainment, various competitions, a casino night, a professional boxing match and a bike and car show.

Here’s the full schedule for the event: 

Friday:

>> Registration: 4 to 9 p.m. 

>> Vendor and vehicle Setup: 3 p.m. – vendors and vehicles move in (not open to the public)

>> Indoor schedule: 4 p.m. – poker tournament kicks off, 6 p.m. – DJ set, 9 p.m. – poker tournament ends

Saturday: 

>> Registration: 9 to 11 a.m.

>> Vendor and vehicle Setup: 10 a.m. – vendors set up (not open to the public), 10:30 a.m. – cars and bikes move in, 11 a.m. – ride-along with Paul Sr. (meet at Walmart parking lot in Port Isabel)

Outdoor schedule: 

>> 12 p.m. – festival gates open;

>> 12:30 p.m. – DJ spinning the hits

>> 1 p.m. – live performance by City Boyz;

>> 2:30 p.m. – DJ music;

>> 3:30 p.m. – games and competitions (Bike/Car Show area);

>> 5 p.m. – live performance by The Spinoffs; 

>> 6:30 p.m. – award ceremony

>> 7:30 p.m. – Headliner Whiskey D takes the stage

>> 9 p.m. – outdoor festivities end

Indoor schedule: 

>> 1:30 to 8 p.m. – Casino Night (lobby area)

>> 3 p.m. – professional boxing match begins

>> 11 p.m. – festival wraps up
