The office of the Cameron County Clerk Sylvia Garza-Perez and Tax Assessor-Collector Tony Yzaguirre Jr. will re-open their office lobbies to the general public starting Monday, they announced on Friday.
According to the press release, their offices never closed during the COVID-19 pandemic and the County Clerk’s Office continued to operate with a skeleton crew, utilizing remote services to continue day-to-day operations while the Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office continued to operate using the drive-thru, customer windows dealing with essential issues on property tax and motor vehicles.
“Effective Monday, May 4, 2020, these two office lobbies’ will be opened to be public to take care of any type of business relating to these offices. Because covid-19 virus is not over yet, the office will operate with precautions not only the safety of our taxpayers, but also the safety of our county employees,” the press release reads.
According to the press release, the following office will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a limited number of customers coming into the offices:
<< Cameron County Levee Building, 835 E. Levee St., Brownsville.
<< San Benito County Building, 1390 W. Expressway 83, San Benito.
<< Harlingen County Building, 3302 Wilson Road, Harlingen.
<< Los Fresnos County Building, 745 W. Ocean Blvd, Los Fresnos.
<< Port Isabel County Building, 505 Highway 100, Port Isabel.
<< La Feria County Building, 200 Industrial Way St., La Feria.
The following County Branch Offices will remain closed:
<< Brownsville Southmost Branch, 2900 Southmost Blvd, Brownsville.
<< Brownsville Westside Branch, 1763 Military Hwy., Brownsville.
<< Rio Hondo Branch, 125 W. Colorado Road, Rio Hondo.
“Because of the limited number of spaces in our offices, the County Clerk and the Tax Assessor-Collector will continue to require face masks on all customers coming into their offices and will require all of the employees to use the face masks while working in the County Building,” the release reads.
“No children will be allowed and only the customers having business in the office will be allowed into the offices. These precautions will continue to be enforced as long as the COVID-19 continues to be a safety issue for all county residents.”
