Authorities on Saturday confirmed the sixth death in Cameron County attributed to COVID-19, claiming the life of an 82-year-old woman from a nursing facility.
The woman from Windsor Atrium in Harlingen and passed away at Valley Baptist Medical Center, authorities said in a statement Saturday evening.
This is the second COVID-19 related death from that facility.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends, as well as the nursing home residents and employees during this difficult time,” Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino Jr. stated.
Cameron County also has received confirmation of an additional 19 cases of COVID-19. This raises the number of cases to 298 in Cameron County. Of those, 108 individuals have recovered.
The new patients range in age from 6 to 91. They include:
• In Brownsville, one woman. Community acquired, another woman linked to a previous case and a 6-year-old boy linked to a previous case.
In Harlingen, two women, community acquired, two women community acquired, a 65-year-old man community acquired, and 11 people linked to a previous case.
In Los Fresnos, a woman linked to a previous case.

Hidalgo County cases
In Hidalgo County, 13 more people have tested positive for COVID-19, health authorities said Saturday.
A total of 255 people have now tested positive for this strain of coronavirus in Hidalgo County.
Twenty-eight people are in area hospitals; six of them in intensive care units.
All 13 people who learned of their positive test on Saturday, as well as household members, have been ordered to isolate themselves at home.
