RGV adds 656 new COVID-19 cases, 27 new deaths

The Rio Grande Valley added 656 new cases of COVID-19 to the roster Wednesday, along with 27 more deaths tied to the virus.

Hidalgo County reported 508 cases and 10 deaths.

Out of the 508 infections, 228 were reported as confirmed, 227 as probable and three as suspect.

Those cases bring the total number of confirmed infections to 47,246, probable to 21,519 and suspect to an even 1,000.

The majority of the new fatalities were older than 70, although three were in their 50s and 40s. Half were men and half were women, residents of Alamo, Hidalgo, McAllen, Mission, Pharr, San Juan and an undisclosed location.

Hidalgo County hospitals are still treating 356 individuals with the virus, 141 of them in intensive care units.

Cameron County reported 110 new cases and 15 more deaths related to COVID-19 Wednesday.

Starr County reported 18 new cases Wednesday, 10 of them confirmed and eight probable, bringing the total there to 7,083 confirmed cases and 1,679 probable.

The county also added two new fatalities tied to the virus to the death toll.

Willacy County reported 20 new cases Wednesday, three of them reported as backlogged cases. The total number of confirmed cases there stands at 2,110.
