SOUTH PADRE ISLAND — People interested in helping a good local cause are able to do so at an upcoming fundraiser dinner featuring an assortment of local cuisine.
Starting at 7 p.m., the Capable Kids Foundation Lower Valley nonprofit organization will host a Taste of Padre fundraiser Wednesday at the SPI Nature and Birding Center.
A group of Valley restaurants, caterers and businesses has donated services to the event and will serve a variety of food.
The lineup of participants includes The Meatball Café, Peggy’s Cakes RGV, Karla’s Katering, Lone Star Meats and Deli, South Texas Craft Smokers, LCC and Nemia’s Pizzeria.
Wine, beer and nonalcoholic beverages will be included with the meal.
“This is a great event for anyone that enjoys incredible food and also wants to help a very worthy cause,” said Capable Kids Foundation Lower Valley Program Director Stephanie Wilson.
In addition to the cuisine, there will be a raffle and a silent auction.
Tickets cost $50 and are available for purchase on the Island at SOS Services or Sisters Interiors, in Laguna Vista at SPI Realty or at Capable Kids’ office in Los Fresnos.
Funds raised from the event will benefit Capable Kids’ events and programs they host in the Lower Valley for children and adults with disabilities.
“We are thankful for everyone that is donating and participating,” Wilson said. “We’re so appreciative of the local community for how they pull together for our special needs community.”
According to Wilson, there will be volunteer opportunities for anyone interested in donating their time to help set up the event and clean up.
