Former UTPA coach Ogletree dies at 89

Former University of Texas-Pan American (now UTRGV) baseball coach Al Ogletree died Monday morning, according to the UTRGV sports information department.

Ogletree, 89, found his greatest success at UTPA, where he coached from 1969 to 1997. He was inducted into UTPA’s inaugural Athletics Hall of Fame. Ogletree had a 1,084–618–1 record at Pan American.

Ogletree led UTPA to its first College World Series in 1971 and brought them to 12 NCAA tournament appearances. He was named The Sporting News National Coach of the Year in 1971.
