HARLINGEN — United Auto Workers union members at Harlingen space company United Launch Alliance have ratified a new five-year contract, the company said yesterday.
The new labor contract takes effect next week, and covers nearly 60 employees from UAW Local No. 2346 at ULA’s production operations facility here.
Workers at the Harlingen facility build structural components for the Atlas V and Delta IV rockets.
Negotiations began this week and an accord was reached quickly, with union members voting their approval of the contract yesterday.
The vote to ratify the collective bargaining agreement came arounda week after ULA, based in Centennial, Colorado,
signed a five-year lease extension with the Harlingen Airport Authority for continued use of the manufacturing facility, the company said in a statement.
“We are pleased that ULA and UAW negotiated a fair and competitive agreement that benefits our Harlingen workforce and supports our focus on transforming the future of space launch,” said Tory Bruno, ULA president and CEO.
“I look forward to working with our team in Harlingen and around the country to provide smarter and even more dependable, cost-effective launch services for our government and commercial customers.”
ULA has successfully delivered 133 satellites to orbit for uses such as Earth observation and global communications.
