They’re our rights

“The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.”

That’s the Ninth Amendment.

“No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States.”

That’s part of Section 1 of the Fourteenth Amendment.

That a writer would consider defending these principles a usurping of the rights of the people and the states is mind boggling.

The writer is correct “The Constitution did not mention things such as the right to abort babies, the right to call same-sex union marriage, the right to form labor unions …”

What the writer neglects to mention is Constitution does not mention these or a myriad of other social/political issues.

The Framers were genius enough to give us the Ninth Amendment, and the Congress and the states later gave us the Fourteenth to cover these unforeseen issues.

SCOTUS interpretation of the unenumerated rights and equal protection clauses does not fit the view of some, so they call it a usurpation of rights. I ask, “What right of yours was taken away?”
