The United Way of Northern Cameron County will hold its annual “Day in the Park” on Thursday morning at Lon C. Hill Park in Harlingen.
The event is part of the United Way’s Day of Action promoting summer reading and physical activity and runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Children will get a chance to take part in sack races, giant tricycle races, hula hoop contest and many more games. They’ll also learn how to make s’mores at a campfire.
Community leaders and area businesses will run the reading and activity stations and the Boys and Girls Club of Harlingen is providing lunch for everyone.
Each child will be given a book to read during the rest of their summer vacation.
