Two men arrested for the murder of Mission man

SAN BENITO — A man is waiting arraignment in Hidalgo county for a murder that occurred just outside of San Benito.

During a press conference today, Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio said Janeys Martinez Sol, 46, is being charged for the murder of Henry Gonzalez, 35.

The department was alerted to a possible missing persons case from Mission, Thursday and had evidence to believe the person had been brought to Cameron County.

Friday, the body of Gonzalez was found in a grave off of FM 2520, also known as South Sam Houston, outside of San Benito.

Police were able to identify Gonzalez from his tattoos, clothing and the description that had been received during the missing persons report. Lucio said Gonzalez is believed to have been dead for eight to 10 days before being found.

Investigation led to police arresting Sol in Weslaco for the involvement in the death of Gonzalez.

No bond has been set yet and Sol is pending arraignment in Hidalgo County before being extradited to Cameron County.

It is not currently known if Sol had any priors before being arrested and Lucio said there is currently no known connection between the two.

A second person, Jonathan Canales was also arrested for failure to report a felony.

According to Lucio, the case is currently open and more arrests could be made in the coming days.
