Annual veterans car show slated for Friday

HARLINGEN — Get ready for some food and vintage cars. The annualVA BBQ and Car Show is slated for Friday and will include a variety of family-friendly activities.

In a partnership between the HarlingenVA Outpatient Clinic and the Antique Automobile Club of America, the event will provide information booths for veterans and current military personnel.

HarlingenVA Outpatient Clinic administrative officer Abel Flores said the event began three years ago to provide some fun time for veterans before the Fourth of July.

“It’s our way of saying thank you to our vets,” Flores said. “We decided we wanted to do something for the veterans before the Fourth of July and came up with the idea for a car show.”

More than 50 custom cars, hot rods and motorcycles will be available for viewing during the event.

The Pin Up for Patriot Girls, a group of women who dress up in traditional pinup outfits, will be onsite to pose for pictures and meet with people.

In addition to fun activities and raffles, the event will also feature information booths.

The veterans outreach unit and the veteran’s lands board mobile unit will be available to provide information on benefits and assistance veterans might need.
