IWFA notes: Jaguars preparing for biggest test of the season while Vixens set for doubleheader

No games made for zero fun over the weekend as the area’s IWFA games were canceled due to a downpour of rain.

The Harlingen-San Benito region, which received several inches of rain last week, experienced half the yearly totals in just a couple of days and many area flooded.

Due to the deluge, the RGV Vixens vs. Laredo Phantasy and Harlingen Honeys vs. Weslaco Jaguars games were postponed to later dates.

However, one team eager to play this Saturday is the Weslaco Jaguars. The Jaguars come into the contest on a six-game win streak, and, despite the importance of their upcoming game, team owner/player Stephanie Garcia says the team has gotten to where it is by not looking too far into the future.

“We take it one game at a time,” said Garcia. “But to keep it simple, we are just excited for the challenge. The missed game gave us time to heal, rest and prepare for the challenge we are about to face.”

That challenge comes in the form of the undefeated San Antonio Legacy, which is 6-0. The Legacy have handily defeated opponents by scores of 84-19, 68-30 and 61-6. However, the Jaguars are also 6-0 and hope the trip north provides win No. 7.

Another area team ready for the weekend is the RGV Vixens. Not only will the Vixens play against the rival Harlingen Honeys at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, they have also officially rescheduled their game against Laredo Phantasy to 10 p.m. Saturday as well.

The Vixens enter the game at 4-3 while the Honeys come in at 2-4-1.
