CTE student honored with scholarship

San Benito High School graduating senior Mathew Reyna was recently awarded a $1,000 Jon H. Poteat Scholarship from the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS).

Reyna was one of 225 outstanding NTHS members to receive the prestigious scholarship named in honor and memory of NTHS co-founder Jon H. Poteat.

Throughout his high school career, Reyna has been involved with multiple clubs and organizations. He is the treasurer of the National Technical Honor Society, secretary for the Business Professionals of America Chapter 2, saxophones section leader of the San Benito Greyhound Marching Band, second tenor in the Honors Jazz Ensemble, and a member of the Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society.

Reyna will apply the scholarship toward his post-secondary education at the University of North Texas, where he will work toward a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry in hopes of one day attending pharmacy school.

NTHS is the leader in recognizing student achievement in Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. More than 4,350 schools and colleges are affiliated with the Society, and since its founding in 1984, it has awarded over $1.7 million in scholarships to remarkable CTE students nationwide.
