San Benito to host Cinco de Mayo festival Saturday evening

SAN BENITO – The city is hosting its first Cinco De Mayo Fiesta at Heavin Memorial Park on from 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday.

An outdoor, festival-styled venue will feature an entertainment line-up that includes live musical groups, food vendors, arts and crafts vendors and Mexican wrestlers.

Entertainment will include a performance by Lluvia Vega, who was semi-finalist on the Voice, Mexico’s First Generation in 2011, and last year she was named the Queen of the Song (La Reina de la Cancion) by Univision, plus Lucha Libre-styled wrestling matches.

Also in the lineup are the JC Canalas Elementary School’s Conjunto performers from Brownsville, San Benito High School Conjunto Estrella, and Harvey y Los Latinos.

“The event is designed to draw more people to San Benito to enjoy our hospitality, enhance the quality of life here, and leave some new revenue for our business community,” according to Mayor Ben Gomez.
