Why so much?

I am an older Winter Texan and I have to pay $55 or more for a fishing license. If I were a Texan, at my age, it would be free.

I have no problem with that, but what I can’t understand is why Cameron County charges its residents so much to go to their own parks? Why are they not treated the same way the state treats its fishermen? It makes sense for visitors to pay more than local residents. Not very many local residents are paid much more than minimum wage.

Come on Cameron County, give your locals a break. If you have to charge, make it minimal, say $1. You have free bus service for locals to get to work. That’s good.

Why not free parks so the locals can take their kids to the beach on a hot day? You can buy a lot of hot dogs for $10.

Who do the parks belong to if not the people of the county? Why are the parks operated like a for profit company? How much does the Isla Blanca Campground alone generate? A guess would be about $30,000 day?

Shame on someone.
