South’s One-Act Play crowned State Champions

Harlingen High School South’s One-Act Play, “Side Man” by Warren Leight has won the State competition. Cast member, James Gracia also earned the Best Actor Award and Samuel French Award. Savannah Smith, who played Terry was named All-Star Cast. Harlingen South was one of eight schools competing in the UIL 6A Conference out of over about 200 plays across the state of Texas. This accomplishment is a huge honor for the team and its directors, Maegan Conley and Julia Wise, as it is the first team state championship won by any organization at Harlingen South. Conley and Wise are also former students of the Speech Drama and Debate program at Harlingen South.

Additionally, this is the first time a Rio Grande Valley school has won the state championship since 1935.
