State offering tax amnesty program

If you owe the State of Texas delinquent sales tax receipts here’s your chance to pay up.

The Texas Comptroller’s office will have a temporary tax amnesty program beginning Tuesday giving certain delinquent taxpayers the chance to get their taxes order without incurring penalties and interest on tax due.

The amnesty program will run from May 1 to June 29 and applies to sales tax due before Jan. 1. The program is only for taxes that have not been previously reported to the state.

If you own a store, a business, sell online or anything similar you may qualify for amnesty:

  • delinquent taxpayers who do not have a Texas Sales and Use Tax Permit, or are not registered for a tax or fee administered by the Comptroller’s office; and
  • taxpayers who have a permit, but may have underreported or owe additional taxes or fees.

The amnesty program does not apply to periods currently under audit review, IFTA taxes, PUC Gross Receipts assessments, Local Motor Vehicle Tax and Unclaimed Property payments.
