HARLINGEN — A surging high-pressure system is moving south into the Rio Grande Valley this morning, bringing strong northeast winds and triggering a small-craft advisory for gulf waters.
National Weather Service forecasters in Brownsville say conditions also will mean a moderate risk of rip currents along gulf beaches.
The small-craft advisory will be in effect until 1 p.m. this afternoon when winds will gradually begin shifting to the east as they start to diminish.
Until then, seas will be between four and six feet with winds at 20 to 25 knots.
Inland areas are at an elevated risk of possible erratic wildfire behavior this afternoon due to a combination of gusty winds, low relative humidity and dry to very dry grasses and brush.
