SAN BENITO — The San Benito school district is working on training its future leaders.
Principal hopefuls gathered recently to take part in an Aspiring Principal Academy to learn more about what it takes to be a principal and how to improve in their current positions.
More than 20 administrators made up of assistant principals and deans of instruction took part in the first of seven sessions that will be held this year.
According to the director of secondary instructional implementation Theresa Servallon, the initiative contains training on all aspects of being a principal.
“These sessions are to support their future endeavors and build their skills as current administrators,” Servallon said.
Some of the subjects include instruction, curriculum and special populations.
“We’re wanting to ensure we grow our own people and are giving them the support they need,” Servallon said.
The training is voluntary for assistant principals and deans of instruction looking to one day lead a school of their own or improve upon their current positions.
Representatives from Region One were available to help facilitate the meeting and provide support for the initiative that began last year but took shape once Superintendent Nate Carman joined the district.
Servallon said the sessions will host featured speakers including superintendents from different districts and will provide instruction aligned with the state’s goals.
Administrators will be working on hands-on activities that can be used in their current positions.
The first session began last week and will continue until May.
