San Benito BPA students fare well at leadership conference

San Benito High School Career and Technical Education (CTE) Business Teacher and Business Professionals of America (BPA) Chapter 8 Irma Perez proudly announces that local BPA students fared well at the Area 2 / Region 3 BPA Regional Leadership Conference held in January at South Texas College – Mid-Valley Campus in Weslaco, Texas.

The regional results for San Benito BPA Chapter 8 students are as follows:

• State qualifiers: Joseph Muñoz, 1st Place – Interview Skills; Jayson Martinez, 1st Place – Presentation Management Individual; Jose Martinez, 2nd Place – Fundamental Word Processing; Janet Rasmussen, 2nd Place – Digital Media Production; Brieanna Vega and Yazmyn Delgado, 2nd Place – Broadcast News Production Team; and Almeida Lara, Rebekah Means, April Montemayor, Eva Villagran, Jose Martinez, Joseph Muñoz, and David de la Rosa, 3rd Place – Parliamentary Procedures Team.

• State alternates: Angelin Cruz, 5th Place – Advanced Interview Skills; Eddie Abrego, 6th Place – Legal Office Procedures; Ivan Hernandez, 6th Place – Basic Office Systems and Procedures; and Nicholas Rojas, 6th Place – Graphic Design Promotion.

• Scholarship recipients: Two SBHS seniors received scholarship monies that can be used at the university of their choice this upcoming fall. Eddie Abrego received a $500 scholarship, and Jacob Sauceda received a $250 scholarship. Local BPA students will be competing at the State Leadership Conference in Corpus Christi, Texas, during the first week of March.

“Seeing my students build relationships of support and friendship and seeing them grow as they prepare for competition, is one of the most rewarding feelings I get from being their sponsor,” said Perez.

Perez, a Career and Technical Education teacher, is on her sixth year of being one of the BPA sponsors at San Benito High School.

Business Professionals of America is the premier student organization for students pursuing careers in business management, information technology, finance, office administration and other related career fields.
