Federal agents find marijuana hidden in shipment of cucumbers

PHARR – U.S. Customs and Border Protection at the Pharr International Bridge seized 790 pounds of marijuana hidden in a trailer hauling a shipment of cucumbers.

According to a release from the smuggling attempt took place on Jan. 17.

The officers found 285 packages containing a total of 790.35 pounds of marijuana concealed within the commercial trailer. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $158,070.

CBP officers ordered a secondary inspection of a white 1994 freightliner tractor-trailer and scanned the truck with the non-intrusive imagining (NII) system and a canine team to find the narcotics.

The case remains under investigation by Homeland Security Investigations special agents.
