The persistent light rain that has lingered this week over parts of the Rio Grande Valley will continue through the weekend and may turn into stronger thunderstorms Saturday night.
The National Weather Service in Brownsville said moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and a low pressure system are the cause of the rain.
The forecast calls for a 30 percent chance of rain in the Valley today before increasing to 50 percent Saturday night.
The chance of rain is expected to diminish Sunday and then be gone by the beginning of the new week.
The front isn’t bringing freezing temperatures like the other fronts that arrived in late December and earlier this month.
Forecasters say Saturday night the temperatures will be in the upper 50s and then drop to the upper 40s on Sunday and Monday night. Next week, the temperatures will be back in the low 70s.
The stronger winds from the front should call for a small craft advisory Sunday through early next week.
