The freezing temperatures are to blame for a leak in a water tower east of Rio Hondo.
The tower is located in the tiny community of La Tina on FM 106 and is run by the East Rio Hondo Water Supply Corporation.
Brian Macmanus, general manager of the water supply, said a glass covering a control valve that regulates the flow of water into the tower broke because of the frigid temperatures.
He said without the working valve water continued to fill into the tower. But he says if too much water flows in mechanisms in the tower are designed to spill out the access water.
Macmanus says the valve has been fixed temporarily.
