School collects Christmas toys for kids

SAN BENITO — Looking to donate unused toys?

The Positive Redirection Center is hosting its annual toy drive.

The PRC will be collecting unwrapped and unused toys for the holiday season until Dec. 21.

The PRC is an alternative schooling program within the San Benito school district.

Principal Laura Garza said last year the PRC collected toys for the Toys for Tots program in partnership with a local church.

This year, the PRC will be collecting toys for a local elementary school.

During a meeting, Garza said she found out La Encantada Elementary did not have a Community in Schools representative.

Community in Schools assists students in financial hardships with whatever needs they might have.

La Encantada Elementary has more than 300 students and Garza said the PRC wants to collect toys to benefit all the students.

“We are trying to get as many toys as we can and trying to get toys for all the students,” Garza said.

If they do not collect enough toys to give to each child in the school, the PRC may have to narrow it down to just one grade level.

The PRC is looking for unwrapped and unused toys.

Garza said the PRC students will be in charge of wrapping the toys to give away.

The PRC is currently located at Veterans Memorial Academy for those looking to drop off toys.

Garza said toys will be delivered to La Encantada Elementary Dec. 22.

To donate, drop off unwrapped toys at Veterans Memorial Academy, 2115 N. Williams Road
