CARDONE to build major new distribution facility

HARLINGEN — The City of Harlingen and CARDONE Industries have announced the company will construct a new distribution center in the city’s industrial park.

The state-of-the-art facility for the company, which manufactures aftermarket automotive parts, will be the largest industrial project to break ground in Harlingen history.

Construction will begin after a groundbreaking ceremony Monday at the site at 815 FM 509 and the facility should be completed by December 2018.

“As CARDONE continues to grow, we need to augment our distribution and logistics capabilities in order to handle our increasing volume and the growing number of product lines,” Stan Gowisnock, CARDONE Industries CEO, said in a statement today. “Having this new distribution center in close proximity to our South manufacturing facilities will help us get those products in our customers’ hands quicker than ever before.”

The new distribution center is intended to support growing production at the company’s manufacturing facilities, one of which is located just across the U.S./Mexico border in Matamoros, and will be constructed with the capacity for future expansion as needed.

“CARDONE Industries has been a top-performing business in the Harlingen Industrial Park for more than 10 years, and we are excited to have the opportunity to continue working with them on this expansion,” said Mayor Chris Boswell. “The expansion will positively impact our community by creating new jobs that will directly impact many families from Harlingen and the surrounding areas.”

Just how many jobs the facility will generate was not known today.

“The cooperation displayed throughout the entire process by each party involve — CARDONE Industries, the Harlingen EDC, the Harlingen City Commission and the Cameron County Commission — is ultimately what made this project possible,” said Dr. Gilbert Leal, board President of the Harlingen Economic Development Corp. “With continued collaboration, I’m certain we’ll see many more projects develop in our region.”

“CARDONE is making history in Harlingen, and we know that Harlingen is the perfect location for them to expand,” said Raudel Garza, CEO of the Harlingen EDC. “We are excited to see the positive impact their presence will make on the city of Harlingen and the entire region. This is the kind of project that generates a positive impact locally and shows the world that Harlingen has something special to offer.”

“CARDONE Industries has had a significant presence in Cameron County for many years now, and we are excited to be a part of their newest project. We express this excitement for many reasons, but most importantly for the positive impacts that will be generated,” said Eddie Trevino Jr., Cameron County judge. “In addition to Harlingen, a positive impact will be noticed by all of Cameron County as well as our neighbors to the south in Mexico. We are happy that CARDONE Industries has chosen Cameron County as place to do business.”
