HARLINGEN — The Lone Star Pacesetters will host a memorial run for a former member this Saturday.
It has been two months since local architect and interior designer Meg Jorn died in a car accident.
Now, the Mega Memorial 5K Run/2 Mile Walk will raise money for athletic scholarships in Jorn’s name.
Jorn was an active member in the community owning a business based out of Harlingen named Megamorphosis Inc. and taking part in the running group, Lone Star Pacesetters.
The Massachusetts native was a runner for more than 20 years, competing in numerous 5Ks and marathons, including the well-known Boston Marathon where she participated several times.
Nancy Rodriguez, the organization’s race director said the organization hosts three races a year to collect money for Harlingen high school scholarships, a cause that Jorn felt passionately for.
According to Rodriguez, Jorn was a member of the Pacesetter’s board for the college scholarship fund.
“Meg was real big about that,” Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez said Jorn’s family were the ones to approach the running group about the possibility of a memorial run.
Jorn was part of the Lone Star Pacesetters for 15 years.
“She was a big-time athlete and into bringing fitness in to the community,” Rodriguez said.
More than 250 people have registered for the race already.
Rodriguez said the organization does not have a goal for the amount of people to register or number of funds they want to raise for the scholarships.
“Whatever we make, we make,” Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez said the organization is looking to promote the memory of Jorn and let people know that she was loved.
