Annual Feast of Sharing set for Friday

HARLINGEN – It’s an annual tradition – one in which thousands take part in each year.

It involves turkey, gravy, stuffing, potatoes and, of course, pumpkin pie. Best of all, it is free.

Tomorrow, thousands of Harlingen residents are expected to give thanks together and share a festive holiday meal.

Yes, it is HEB’s annual Feast of Sharing, a way to bring together family, friends and neighbors while also show-ing appreciation to its customers.

Hundreds of HEB and community volunteers will serve the free meal to an expected more than 9,000 people at the Harlingen Community Center during a four-hour span. The event, which is open to the public, also includes live music, entertainment and family-friendly activities.

But, it is the food that draws most people – turkey, gravy, cranberry sauce, cornbread dressing, mashed pota-toes, vegetables and pumpkin pie.

It’s likely your first of several Thanksgiving meals.

The HEB Feast of Sharing dinners were founded in 1989 and are a part of the company’s Food Bank Assistance Program, which works year round to prevent hunger in Texas and Mexico. The annual feast includes more than 250,000 meals served during 33 dinners held throughout Texas and Mexico.
