Steven Chamblee, the horticulturalist for historic Chandor Gardens in Weatherford, will give a presentation on his plant-based adventures in Texas and another one on the monarch butterfly Friday at the Stillman House Museum, 1325 E. Washington St.

Chamblee’s presentation starts at 5:30 p.m. with “Monarchs to Mexico,” an account of his role in developing a children’s garden at Colegio Nezaldi, a small elementary school on the monarch’s migration route in Monterrey, Mexico.

He emphasizes the importance of gardening and environmental education not only as a way to help the butterfly, but also as a means to instill a love of nature in children on both sides of the border.

At 6:45 p.m. at the StillmanMuseum, Chamblee will present “Peace, Love and Milagros: Life Lessons From the Road,” a collection of stories from 30 years spent traveling the state that includes “horticultural heavens” and “botanical blunders.”

On Thursday, Chamblee will present “Garden Harmony 101” and “Texas Shade Gardens” from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Texas A&M Extension and Research, 2401 E. Business 83 in Weslaco.

The Brownsville and Weslaco events each cost $10 in advance and $15 at the door. To register for Chamblee’s talk in Brownsville, call (956) 548-1313. To register for the Weslaco event, call (956) 361-8236.
