Dog Park to host events for pets

For those who have ever wanted to enter a pet in a Halloween costume contest, now is the chance.

For those who have ever wanted to enter a pet in a Halloween costume contest, now is the chance.

The 4th annual Howl-O-Ween Extravaganza will be held Saturday, Oct. 21, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Stillman Dog Park in Brownsville.

There will be face painting, presentations, bouncers, vendors and food trucks. The extravaganza will culminate with a pet costume contest.

“It’s all about the dogs, and we want to celebrate that event,” said Abby Esparza, a volunteer with Brownsville Animal Defense, in a press release. “We encourage animal lovers to bring their pets and families, and to enjoy what we have planned. This event continues to grow each year, and we’re proud to bring in more attractions, food trucks and vendors for the public to enjoy this year.”

The extravaganza is being hosted by Brownsville Animal Defense, an organization that is dedicated to rescuing dogs left homeless and dogs left in public shelters. The Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation is one of the sponsors.

Animals in B.A.D. care are spayed or neutered, receive the necessary veterinary care and treatment, and are placed in foster homes until permanent homes for them can be found.

Officials hope the Howl-O-Ween event will raise awareness and encourage others to want to improve the lives of animals in the community.
