Texas Regional Bank wins public service award

HARLINGEN — Texas Regional Bank has been recognized for community service with a top state award from the Independent Bankers Association.

Texas Regional is the recipient of the 2017 Best of Community Banking “Golden Eagle Award” for its involvement with Habitat for Humanity of the Rio Grande Valley.

“We are very proud of our outstanding team who made this award possible,” said Michael Scaief, chairman of Texas Regional Bank, said in a statement. “They truly put their hearts into this relationship, to make a difference in people’s lives.”

Since an initial pledge of $30,000 to Habitat in 2015, Texas Regional has expanded the scope of its partnership that offers a “hand up” and not a “hand out” to needy families in Hidalgo and Cameron counties.

The bank’s community service includes providing financial support through sponsorships, manpower through sweat equity volunteerism, knowledge by serving on Habitat’s family selection committee, ongoing financial education to new homeowners and a community development loan of $250,000 to support both affordable housing rehabilitation and construction of new homes.

“The best part is, at the end of the day, two families have homes they now call their own,” said Paul Moxley, president and CEO of the bank. “TRB will continue helping the communities it serves. Through the growing partnership with Habitat for Humanity of the Rio Grande Valley, TRB has the opportunity to make an impact, one nail, one home and one dream at a time.”

Texas Regional Bank began operation in 2010 with the acquisition of Falfurrias State Bank which had one banking center and $18 million in assets. Texas Regional Bank today has 13 banking centers in the Rio Grande Valley, Falfurrias and the Texas Hill Country, with assets in excess of $800 million.

To cope with that rapid growth, Texas Regional Bank has broken ground on a new headquarters building at Stuart Place Road and I-2/U.S. Expressway 83.

The four-story, $10 million headquarters building is expected to be completed late next year.
