Former Defense Secretary makes stops across town

Former Defense Secretary and CIA director Robert Gates was in Harlingen this morning.

He stopped by the Harligen Country Club to speak to local leaders on behalf of the Rio Grande Council.

He then followed that with a short presentation at MMA. There, he was given a special award by MMA Scouts troop 22 for his accomplishments and for visiting MMA.

Gates, the 35th president of the Boy Scouts organization, also spoke to the MMA cadets about the qualities of good leaders and the leadership development the Boy Scouts program can offer.

Read more about what he talked about and why he was here soon and in tomorrow’s Valley Morning Star print edition.
