EDINBURG — The head of Doctors Hospital at Renaissance has resigned to take on a job at a hospital in New York City, DHR confirmed Thursday afternoon.

Israel Rocha, who has been at the helm of DHR since December of 2013, a critical period of expansion, tendered his resignation effective July 1, DHR officials said in a news release.

Dr. Carlos Cardenas was named chief administrative officer by the board, while hospital officials conduct a nationwide search for Rocha’s replacement.

“Israel Rocha has been a transformative leader not only at DHR, but across the region,” Cardenas said in a statement. “He has helped increase our community’s ability to care for patients and has successfully led the hospital during times of rapid change in the healthcare industry.”
