SARITA – Border Patrol agents found 14 immigrants hidden inside a tractor-trailer rig at the Sarita checkpoint this morning.
According to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection news release, the driver was referred to a secondary inspection and that is when agents discovered the immigrants hidden in the cargo.
A short time later, agents at the Falfurrias checkpoint found 34 immigrants in another trailer after a canine alerted them to the possibility of people inside the vehicle. During a secondary inspection the immigrants were found.
“In one week alone, we saw four cases at our checkpoints, which clearly demonstrates the disregard for human life that smugglers have,” said Chief Patrol Agent Manuel Padilla Jr.
All of the immigrants declined medical attention. Both drivers were arrested.
