Port Mansfield tourist moving RV out of Harvey’s path

Port Mansfield is one area in the Valley under a hurricane watch and storm surge watch for Tropical Depression Harvey.

The tiny town only has a population of a few hundred residents, but it draws many more tourists.

One of those is Trey Hallmark of Bourne, Texas. He drove to Port Mansfield to pick up his 5th-wheel travel trailer and it take north before the storm makes landfall.

Employees of a rental company were busy installing storm shutters on nearly three dozen homes in the community.

Most residents are not worried about the storm and look forward to the much needed rain. Local restaurant owners say they plan to stay open unless the power goes out.

A tropical storm watch is in effect for the Cameron and Willacy County coasts and includes the cities of South Padre Island, Port Isabel, Laguna Heights, Laguna Vista, Bayview, and Port Mansfield.
