A no go on Blues tonight: Thursday rains cause cancellation

HARLINGEN — Felix y los Gatos were expected to take to the stage tonight in McKelvey Park for the third Blues on the Hill of the 2017 season.

But, heavy rains that dropped nearly an inch on Harlingen Thursday have forced the cancellation of the event.

According to the City of Harlingen Convention and Visitors Bureau, which leads the event, the heavy precipitation flooded McKelvey Park.

This event will not be rescheduled. This isn’t the first time McKelvey Park has been flooded when the Blues on the Hill was supposed to be held.

Last year, a couple of the concerts were held at Lon C. Hill Park.

The next one will be held Nov. 11 featuring Del Castillo and is expected to be at McKelvey Park.

What is Blues on the Hill?

This great Harlingen musical concert series started way back in May 2000 and is supported by donations from local businesses and volunteers. There are four shows per year, typically.

It is held in McKelvey Park as well as Lon C. Hill Park and is free to the public to attend.
