Cameron County ends sandbag distribution

Cameron County officials say based on improving weather conditions the county will stop handing out sandbags immediately.

Cameron County officials say based on improving weather conditions the county will stop handing out sandbags immediately.

County Judge Eddie Treviño Jr. said on Thursday precinct workers distributed over 50,000 sandbags in Brownsville, San Benito and Harlingen.

“County crews did an amazing job in preparing and distributing tens of thousands of sandbags at our four precinct areas and two other “shovel-your-own-sandbag” locations,” Treviño said.

He said since the latest weather forecast calls for less rain and wind the distribution will be suspended unless weather conditions change.
