Harlingen PD invites folks over for coffee

HARLINGEN — The Harlingen Police Department is inviting all residents to meet with officers for “Coffee with a Cop” on Friday.

The community get-together with city residents is a regular occurrence for the Harlingen police, which tries to host four of the events a year.

Commander John Parrish said yesterday residents can expect around 15 or so officers from several divisions to attend, including patrol officers, district representative officers, command officers and executive staff and detectives.

Coffee With a Cop will be held at the Cracker Barrel restaurant at 110 W. Bass Pro Dr. from 7 to 9 a.m.

“It’s a police community interaction in a relaxed atmosphere to discuss community concerns,” Parrish said via email. “And it develops relationships and partnerships to ensure a safe community.”

“Coffee with a Cop” is a national initiative supported by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Community-Oriented Policing Services.

The events are held nationwide to help local police departments connect with the community and advance the practice of community policing.
