U.S. Border Patrol agents stopped a huge load of marijuana from being smuggled into Brownsville.

According to an agency news release, the agents were patrolling the Rio Grande on Friday afternoon when they saw a Ford Ranger pickup floating across the river.

The driver landed on the U.S. side of the river and made his way up a dirt road. As the agents approached, the driver turned around and drove the truck into the river.

The driver and several others waiting on the Mexican side of the Rio Grande were seen removing 44 bundles of narcotics from the sinking truck.

The U.S. Border Patrol says since Oct. 1, 2016, Rio Grande Valley Sector agents have seized over 150,000 pounds of marijuana.
